Meg's job at WeCount is all about voter registration - calling random people and assisting them with getting registered to vote. One of her phone calls introduces her to Colby, a state away in small-town Ohio. For weeks, the two get to know each other over long phone calls and texts throughout the day, each unsure of what exactly their relationship is. Their connection grows, but at the end of the day, they might just be too different to make something real work.

First things first: GREAT Ohio representation here. I grew up about twenty minutes north of where Colby lives and it just felt totally right. Also really appreciated the Hell is Real mention. If you know, you know.

I have a feeling Meg is our new normal in terms of female YA protagonists. The confident Gen Z activist. I don't hate it. I liked Meg a lot and appreciated that she considered a path different from the one she felt was laid out for her.

I LOVE a long-distance relationship like this (or even an online relationship, a tech relationship? I'm thinking Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi). Something about the two MCs really getting to know each other like this really gets me.

For today's world *gestures vaguely* this was a great read to open up a conversation about how divisive the US seems. Meg and Colby come from very different environments and really had to figure out how to navigate their different viewpoints to see each other more clearly. Great reminders to not judge everyone for the current status in life.
