Throw Like a Girl

⭐⭐⭐

Throw Like a Girl Sarah Henning 361 pages | Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

Liv, scholarship student and a softball player at her expensive private school, throws a punch during a game and finds herself without a scholarship - which means she'll be transferring to the public school across town (which just happens to be the school of her now ex-boyfriend and the friends of the girl she punched). As a way to prove that she can be a team player, Liv is recruited by Grey, star quarterback, to be his back up on the football team.

Cute cute cute. This book was just super cute. Something about the cover art and the title had me assuming this book would be a little too young or reductive but was pleasantly surprised. I read it in less than a day and while it was a pretty predictable story I still enjoyed it a lot.

I was actually really surprised at how much, um, football is in this book? Yeah I know, it's a book about a girl joining a football team. Of course, there's football. But I had assumed it would skip over the gameplay aspects and be a bit vaguer. Granted, I know nothing about football so I can't say how realistic any of it was, but it did add to the story for me.

This book was a pick from Book of the Month! Give BOTM a shot for just $5!
