Carley Fortune
320 pages | Published by Berkley
The Set Up: Lucy arrives on Prince Edward Island for a girls trip with her best friend Bridget when she meets Felix. They have an immediate, intense attraction, but after an amazing night together, she realizes that Felix is actually Bridget’s younger brother. For five years, they try and fail to keep things platonic. When Lucy drops everything to follow Bridget back to PEI days before her wedding, she and Felix are forced to finally figure out what they are to each other.
Carley Fortune has done it again y’all!! This had the exact summer reading vibes that I wanted - a coastal and cozy romance with pining and dramatic confrontations in the rain. Does it get better? This book shook me out of a long reading slump which I’m grateful for. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it did NOT let me down.
I absolutely loved all of the characters in this book. Lucy and Felix were so dynamic. Their connection was palpable from their first interaction. I also loved Lucy and Bridget’s friendship and how the book was just as much about their relationship as the romance.
I thought the book was perfectly written. It was fast paced, and I enjoyed going back and forth between past summers and present day, and piecing together the full story from the beginning.
Carley has quickly become one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. Her writing is eloquent, humorous, and emotional. It’s a perfect combination, IMO.
