The Simple Wild K.A. Tucker
390 pages | Published by Atria Books
All in one day, Calla is fired from her job, breaks up with her boyfriend, and then gets a call from a stranger who tells her the father she hasn't had contact with for twelve years has cancer and that she should come to visit - in Alaska. She packs her bags, thinking at the very least she'll get some good content for the lifestyle blog she runs with her best friend. What she didn't actually expect was how quickly she would grow to appreciate the Alaskan lifestyle of her dad, or how attractive she would find her dad's rude protege, Jonah.
I was halfway through this book and I already knew it was getting a very enthusiastic five stars from me. I loved absolutely everything about this book. I cried for half of it but I'm fine now (I think). A big take away is now I want to go to Alaska.
The slow burn of Calla and Jonah was honestly perfect and SO satisfying. Grumpy man with a kind heart is the best trope and that is the hill I will die on. Soy milk, guys. He bought her SOY MILK.
As much as I enjoyed the romance of the book the family element really hit me hard. What a beautiful story. I've already ordered the second book because I'm DYING to know where Calla & Jonah go from here.
Basically this is a book that I will be 100% recommend to anyone and everyone for forever.
