The Set Up: Sadie has just been through her Very Bad Year - she lost her boyfriend, her job, and her apartment, and is living with her brothers best friend Jacob. When she attends a carnival themed New Year’s Eve party with her friend, she meets a fortune teller who gives her what she wants: a second chance at the last year.
This was a and quick read with a touch of magic that was perfect for the new year. It was pretty fast paced with a cute found family element. There is an element of workplace sexual harassment, so read with care, but the tone of the book stays pretty light.
Sadie and Jacob’s relationship was very sweet but I wish there had been more of a buildup. I needed some more dialogue, some more banter.
While there were far too many baking similes for me, we get it she’s a baker, I loved how the book makes you think about what you would do with a second chance.
