The Set Up: Lady Helena is determined to escape from London and her abusive uncle. In his attempt to convince her to turn over her fortune to him, he’s become abusive and has threatened to commit her to an asylum. She knows that her only chance at freedom is by marrying, which leads her to replying to an advertisement placed by ex-army captain Justin Thornhill. Their marriage is supposed to be nothing more than a business arrangement, but Justin seems to be the exact hero that Helena needs to help her find her own bravery.
A sweet story with a touch of real-life inspiration, as always! I love that MM incorporates real events and stories into her books - it makes me feel like I’m learning a bit while reading.
I liked Justin and Helena and how loyal they were to each other, even if I hate the well intentioned sacrifice Justin tries to make.
But I think what I’m most excited about is that this is the start of a series where all the men have a connection. I feel like it’s usually sisters or a group of girls that gets a series, but I love that Mimi has done it a bit different here and created this group of men who were so close as kids.
