The Boyfriend Project

⭐⭐⭐

The Boyfriend Project Farrah Rochon 368 pages | Published by Forever

Samiah discovers, via Twitter, that she is "one of the many" to her boyfriend - and the video of her public confrontation goes viral. Now, she and the "other two," London & Taylor, make a pact to remove men from the equation to focus on self-love and personal development. Naturally, this is when Daniel shows up as the new hire at work - sweet, supportive, and sexy. Samiah and Daniel have an instant connection, but he has a major secret.

Okay WOW Samiah is total girl boss goals. She knows her worth and accepts nothing less. From tearing down Craig (rightfully so) to negotiating salaries, she is the career woman I aspire to be. Plus, I loved her new friendship with Taylor & London - making friends as an adult is hard!! I appreciate when a book is a love story in more ways than just romance (obvi I'm all about the romance, and Daniel was the techy Marine of my dreams) - but in this book, we got the love of sisters and the love of female friendship. Also PLEASE tell me we're getting a follow-up book on Taylor... right??

Several times through the book, Samiah talks about the various pressures she feels in her life & career as a black woman. She worries that if she messes up, that will give people an excuse to not hire the next black woman that comes along - this was a concern that I had literally never thought about before. Obviously I always want to be doing my best in my job, but I've never had to worry that my mistakes will reflect on the next white person who interviews for my position. This is why we diversify the stories we read!!
