The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness

The Set Up: Diana and Matthew are ready to spend their summer holiday in England when Diana receives a mysterious message from a relative she didn’t know existed: that it’s time to come home. Over the course of the summer, Diana learns more about her father’s family, her full magical potential, and the magical abilities of her twins.
I loved diving back into this world with Diana and Matthew. This book was cozy and witchy, exactly what you’d want from the All Souls series. It’s been a while since I’ve read the first three books (#4 doesn’t focus so much on Diana) so it was a little tricky for me to remember some characters and their backstories.
It’s obvious that Deborah Harkness is an academic; her writing is detailed, but not overwhelming, and I actually feel like I learn when I read these books.
It was fun to get the other side of Diana’s family, Proctors rather than Bishops. This one was a less romantic story, but given where we are in the series, it makes sense.
Overall I liked this book and I’m excited at it seems like there is more to come.
