Royal Holiday [review]

⭐⭐⭐

Royal Holiday Jasmine Guillory

304 pages | Published by Berkley

Vivian, a fifty-something social worker from California, gets the chance to take the trip of a lifetime to England with her professional stylist daughter, Maddie - who has been hired to style a member of the royal family during the Christmas holiday. There, Vivian meets Malcolm, the private secretary to the queen. The two are immediately drawn to each other, and Vivian extends her trip to spend more time with him at his home in London. But soon they have to face the reality of their long-distance situation and decide what to do come the new year.

I usually love Jasmine Guillory's writing, but something about this book fell a little flat for me. It was cute, don't get me wrong, but I never felt fully connected to the characters in this one. But for a Christmas break read, it was fine - maybe the book equivalent of a low-stakes Hallmark movie.

It was nice to read a romance about a couple other than the typical twenty-somethings, it was a nice change of perspective. Vivian was all-around lovely, and I liked Malcolm (when he wasn't sulking).

Overall this was cute, but I missed the passion of Jasmine's other books.
