The Set Up: Cassie and Tom’s parents died when they were young, but they could always count on each other. Growing up, Tom would even create outlandish Christmas scavenger hunts for Cassie to complete in order to find her present. For a while, Cassie was sure she’d end up with Tom’s best friend Sam, until he rejects her at Christmas. Year’s later, Cassie and Sam are barely on speaking terms when Tom tragically dies on a rock climbing trip. While Cassie is trying to pick up the pieces of her life, she receives an envelope - the first clue for the scavenger hunt Tom had planned for her this year.

This book was a winner for me, guys!! This book beats out Emily Stone’s debut for me, and I’m going to try and sneak in her newest yet this year. Her writing is gentle, if that makes sense? Especially when it comes to writing about sadness and grief. Overall her style is smart but digestible, which makes it so easy to sink into her books. She’s in the same category as Beth O’Leary and Josie Silver for me - they are all writing these cozy and romantic books that leave me DESPERATE to explore a tiny English village.

This book begins and ends around Christmas, so this was the perfect time to read but it never felt overly cutesy or twee. It was just all cozy vibes.

Cassie and Sam were both messy in their own, completely realistic and understandable ways. I genuinely liked them both and was rooting for them the whole time. I thought they had a great chemistry and I absolutely loved reading how life kept bringing them back together. The Christmas treasure hunt was a unique way to get to know Cassie, as well as her relationships with her brother and Sam.
