Meet You in the Middle Devon Daniels

Kate is a liberal Senate staffer who has vowed to never date a Republican. While trying to drum up support for the bill she's working on, she meets Ben, and the two instantly clash. What starts as petty notes back and forth turns into something more flirtatious, and Ben is not at all who she assumed he would be.
I liked this book a lot purely for the romance of it all. Ben is a cinnamon roll and he made me cry. Does that make me crazy? He was just the absolute sweetest and I couldn't handle it. Kate and Ben's quick banter was fun.
BUT. This does NOT talk race or get too far into politics other than a very vague Democrat vs. Republican debate. I'm on board with the general message of "learn who people actually are rather than judging based on party affiliation" but it did ignore the bigger issues (like, say, insurrections and human rights). I would say it seemed like Ben was supposed to be more of a moderate, but at the end of the day this clearly wasn't written to make a big political statement. I still can't get on board with people who supported 45 and I hope people don't read this book feeling okay that they DID vote for him.
