Majesty (American Royals #2)

Right off the bat I'd like to point out that in my review for American Royals #1 I said "Fall 2020 can't come soon enough!!' and oh, sweet Emily of 2019 - if you only knew.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Majesty (American Royals #2)

Katharine McGee 374 pages | Published by Random House

In this world, the United States won the revolutionary war and created another monarchy - which is where we meet the present-day Royal Family, the Washingtons. Beatrice finds herself as the new queen after her father's sudden death - now having to move forward with a wedding to Teddy she's not sure she wants. Her younger sister Sam decides that she wants to lean into her party-girl reputation as a way to prove she's totally over her crush on Teddy. Friend of the family Nina is trying to live a more normal life after her breakup with Prince Jeff - but social-climbing Daphne can't help but meddle in Nina's life to ensure her own rise to the top.

I loved this follow up!! I'm sure second novels are really hard to pull off but I think Majesty was a solid second in this world, and it clearly leaves room for a third installment which I would be all for.

There was so much growth in this story in all of our narrators. My favorites were Sam and Beatrice; I loved seeing their relationship evolve, watching Sam mature and realize how she can be herself and find her place in their family, and seeing Beatrice learn to create her own path rather than go along with what she feels is required.

Nina and Daphne in this book left a little to be desired for me. I found that I didn't particularly care about Nina and her relationship with Ethan that much, but I am incredibly curious about where Daphne's story will go now that she has had some major revelations about her life.

I could have used more Connor in this book but I get that he's not what this story was about - I'm a BIG Marshall fan and I grew to love and appreciate Teddy as well.

Going into Majesty I was firmly on Team Beatrice and Connor and was looking forward to seeing how Beatrice would escape her royal life to be with him. This book totally went against my expectations and I have to say I absolutely loved it anyway.
