How (Not) to Ask a Boy to Prom

⭐⭐⭐

How (Not) to Ask a Boy to Prom S.J. Goslee 236 pages | Published by Roaring Brook Press

Nolan is awkward, artistic, and one of like, three gay kids at school. In an effort to push him out of his shell, his adopted sister Daphne forces him to ask his long time crush to prom. His prom-posal is a near disaster, saved only by Bern, which is weird because Nolan is pretty sure Bern hates him. But agreeing to go to prom together might be beneficial to both of them.

This was light and easy to read and pretty freaking adorable. It had some great representation, it moved pretty quickly, and was just easy breezy to escape into for a few hours (really this only took me a few hours to read).

Fake dating is something I don't think I'll ever get tired of. I love a low-stakes YA romance. Overall this was sweet but I think because it moved so quickly I never really felt a deeper connection between Nolan and Bern. By the end of the book, I felt like essentially they each had a crush on each other, not that they were actually in a relationship.
