Get a Life, Chloe Brown

Talia Hibbert 368 pages | Published by Avon

Chloe Brown has spent her life living very carefully - until a near-death experience gives her a wake-up call. Determined to gain some new life experiences, she creates a list of things she wants to accomplish, and enlists Red, her building's sexy superintendent, to help her complete the list and start living a bit more fearlessly.

Warning: This is s t e a m y *fans self*

When I say that I loved Chloe and Red, I mean that I loved Chloe, and I loved Red, AND I loved them together. I found Chloe super relatable - she’s tough and sarcastic but is also masking a lot of insecurity and doubt. Red is strong and funny and loyal but is also dealing with a ton of trauma and baggage.

I really loved the subtle body positivity of this book - it’s clear that Chloe isn’t a tiny person, but her size is never like, A Thing. I think good representation doesn’t have to be so blatant - “This is my story about being plus-sized;” but rather “This is my story, and I happen to be plus-sized.”

When I saw the abuse trigger warning at the start of the book, my mind immediately thought that Chloe was the victim - not Red. I loved that Talia told a story that shed some light on the fact that women are not the only ones who can be victims of abuse.
