In 1991, Zooey is starting as a transfer student at an elite private boys boarding school. Immediately singled out for being different, he is set up to face the bullying he was escaping from his old school. Eventually he is taken in by a secret society of boys who all share a similar secret. But when Zooey and his friends seek revenge on a particular bully by means of an occult book of spells, they soon find themselves in way over their heads.

A queer YA story of friendship and occult rituals! Love love love! This book had the dark academia vibes I love so much with the amazing addition of spells, demons, and general witchery.

I loved all three narrators and their different perspectives on being queer in the early 90's (it pained me to file this book as historical fiction, btw, but alas that's where we are). Ya know I love a found family so I was absolutely obsessed with the Vicious Circle and the solace they found at their parties.

A solid book to pick up any time but especially in the fall around Halloween!
