Emergency Contact [review]

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Emergency Contact Mary H.K. Choi 394 pages | Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Hello the first thing I'd like to say about this book is that the cover is a thing of beauty. It may be my favorite cover art ever. Okay. Moving on.

WOW this book was cute!! Heart eye emoji!!! Sam and Penny are off the charts adorable but still felt really grounded. I loved watching them bond via texting, knowing that they were really getting to know each other. It was nice to read a romance that didn't rely on an intense physical attraction.

Penny felt relatable to me, more so than a lot of other YA characters. Penny was more comfortable communicating via text, and that's very much the way that I am. Over text, things seemed less risky. I know Penny's arc focuses on learning to let others in more, but still. Could relate.

I was pleasantly surprised by Sam's reaction when it came to his storyline with Lorraine. As a reader, I was glad that things worked out the way they did, but I found Sam's reaction and grief really compelling.
