The Set Up: Duke of Westbourne, Max, stops into a bookshop on an errand for his cousin, where he meets Evie. Because of a wager with his acquaintances, Max proposes that she take a vacation from her store as he turns her into the diamond of the London season. The shop is the only way Evie can support herself, having been left in debt and all but ignored by her extended family, and at first she refuses his offer. But when her store is flooded, Evie has no other choice than play along.

This was my first Laura Lee Guhrke book, and it definitely won’t be my last. I’m already excited to grab the follow-up and explore her backlist.

The story was a fun Cinderella-ish story that starts with a She’s All That style bet. That made me nervous at first but Max is honest about it from the start, which I appreciated. I wasn’t interested in a story completely based on lies.

I loved that Evie and Max built such a strong foundation of friendship during their time working together, and their slow burn romance was lovely.
