Violet is a widow who's true love and passion is science. She and her friends have formed an women's only club - a façade for them all to research in their secret labs. Having been hired by the Queen to help solve a problem, Violet's life is being threatened. Stoic bodyguard Arthur has been hired to watch over Violet and the house and he is determined not to make any connections with those he's protecting. But Violet and Arthur have a connection that can't be denied, despite the differences in their backgrounds.

I loved this crazy group of Victorian scientists! Violet and her friends are such a unique group of women, largely committed to making scientific advancements even though they know it would be frowned upon by most. I'm definitely excited to read the next installment of the Secret Scientists of London.

Arthur was the stoic and brooding bodyguard you want him to be, with a backstory that makes you want to just give him a big hug. He and Violet made my heart BURST with emotion - their story was deeply romantic.

It's worth noting that the book includes a trans footman, Henry, who's deadnamed a lot by his brother - who at least is set up as a villain. I'm interested to see if Henry makes an appearance in future books and gets more of a story.

I liked that this book came with a bit of a mystery which is different from most of the romances that I've read. Also I did not predict the ending which was fun as a reveal - maybe I'm just really bad at mysteries though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
