10 Blind Dates [review]

⭐⭐⭐⭐

10 Blind Dates Ashley Elston 336 pages | Published by Disney-Hyperion

Sophie is reluctantly headed to her grandparents for the Christmas holidays while her mom and dad visit her very pregnant sister a few hours away. Fresh off of a breakup with her boyfriend Griffin, Sophie arrives and is swept into her large family holiday celebrations, where her grandma and extended family come up with a plan to cheer her up - they will take turns setting her up on ten different blind dates during the course of her stay. Reunited with her cousins and childhood best friend, Sophie realizes that this week is exactly what she needed, and who she wants to go on that final date with.

10 Blind Dates was a binge read for me - less than a day and MAN was it delightful. This is one of those stories that is so cute and refreshing that you don't care that it's pretty predictable.

I loved Sophie and how willing she was to go along with the dates her family set up for her. I know that had I been in this same scenario, I would have complained about it the whole time - but she really played along and made the most out of some really awkward situations. Her easy friendship with Wes was heartwarming - I thought they had great chemistry.

The other focus of this book, aside from Sophie's potential relationships, is her connection with her larger than life family. This was as much a story about family as it was romance. I liked that Elston added in Sophie's feelings of separation from her family - it's something that I can relate to, living a bit apart from the rest of my family.

This was my first book of Elston's and I'm eager to read more! It looks like she's following up this book with another about two of Sohpie's cousins, and I'm interested to get a look at this crazy family from a different perspective!
